The apprenticeship will provide training in your core role developing your skills, knowledge and behaviours in line with the industry standard for the apprenticeship.
An Engineering Design and Draughtsperson Apprenticeship is designed to provide learners with the necessary academic grounding with practical skills, knowledge and behaviours they need to excel within a Design Function.
As an Engineering Designer, you will cover all aspects of the project from feasibility studies, through specification, design and procurement to installation and commissioning. Capital projects can vary between the total build of a new factory installation on a Greenfield site to a major overhaul of an existing plant. Design engineers work with a number of departments to facilitate changes and restructures or development of new areas of design such as new plant or equipment.
An Engineering Design and Draughtsperson Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme that provides you with the opportunity to earn while you learn and gain valuable experience in a key industry areas. The apprenticeship is designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the workplace, with qualifications designed to support your career ambitions.
This role is diverse covering all areas of issuing project quotations, specifications, drawings, and calculations for our external wall insulation and render systems to our customers within your core discipine. You will mainly be office based with occasional visits to sites. You will design, alter, amend and redesign and read office drawings using CAD software to either alter existing drawings or create new designs requested from customer requirements.
You will learn to understand technical drawings and specifications and be able to create their own; identify factors likely to affect design decisions; produce CAD (computer aided design) models and engineering drawings and be able to communicate design information to internal and external parties.
Engineering Design positions can specialise in Electrical, Mechanical, Pipework and or Structural activities.
You will need to be able to travel to both Waterside Training, St Helens and your employing company site to carry out both on the job and off the job training is essential.
The ideal candidate should have a genuine desire and enthusiasm for technical work such as interest in design areas, drawing and 3D workings. You must have a positive attitude, willingness to learn, excellent time management, confidence, be well organised, self-motivated and committed with the desire to drive to become a first-class designer.
On completion of the apprenticeship, you can go on to study higher education such as HND or Degree as well as registering for Chartership of the Industry such as the IMechE and IET.
Waterside will assign you a mentor/assessor to guide you through the apprenticeship and carry out six weekly reviews along with guiding you through your standards through portfolio building, behavioural logs, technical discussions, observations to check competency levels prior to embarking on the End Point Assessment.
